ASCP recognizes Dr. Rebecca Obeng (UVA MSTP 2013) as a “40 Under Forty Honoree”

UVA MSTP 2013 graduate Rebecca ObengThe American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) recently recognized Rebecca Obeng, MD, PhD, MPH, FASCP, a 2013 UVA MSTP graduate (PhD research conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Vic Engelhard, as a 40 Under Forty honoree for her contributions to the field of pathology, laboratory medicine, and ASCP. Dr. Obeng is a board-certified anatomic pathologist scientist with a subspecialty interest in gastrointestinal and oncologic pathology. Her research focus is on T-cell immunology and cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Obeng completed postdoctoral research with National Academy of Sciences member, Dr. Rafi Ahmed, during her gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology fellowship at Emory University. She also has interests in global health and health policy. Currently, Dr. Obeng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Northwestern University and serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the Sub-Saharan Africa Healthcare Initiative.
